Information Literacy Competencies of Higher Secondary Students in Kerala
Perceptions of the Teachers
This research study investigates the teachers’ perceptions of information literacy(IL) at nine higher secondary schools in Thiruvananthapuram district. A questionnaire based survey was carried out for collecting data from the teachers. The findings showed that teachers are conversant with the concept of information literacy and they place importance to information literacy skills in completing a learning activity. But their rating of students’ competency levels in information literacyis not high. The study assumes significance in the present educational scenario prevailing in our country since information literacy is a key competency for students which is inevitable for sustenance in the present age of information deluge.
